Freedom of Speech|آزادی بیان

The leader of an unjust land gathered everyone weekly in the main square of the town. People had to show up in order to respect the leader, or there would be consequences and people didn’t want to get in trouble.

The leader always talked about great things about the land like freedom of thought, speech, choice and dreams, but the civilians never saw those things.

Then at the end of each speech, the leader invited people to talk freely and share their thoughts if they disagreed with any part of his speech. The leader insisted that he loved to hear about it to be able to fix it. However, out of thousands of people, not one ever dared to speak up. Until a man named Sam finally did one day.

Sam said: “We have a rich land full of gold mines, we make tons of money here. Why don’t we have enough schools, hospitals, fair retirement. Why can’t females …?”

The leader interrupted: “You see dear people, feel free to talk. It is a free land and you all have rights to share your thoughts. I thank Sam for mentioning all these things that we already are working on it.”

The speech finished mysteriously. Everyone started looking at each other and talked with their eyes. They were wondering what had happened, but also what a brave man Sam was. He asked questions that they all had wanted to ask for so long. He was stopped in the middle, but at least he was able to ask some of the important questions.

This encouraged people to gather questions they could ask in the following week’s Congregation.

When it was time for the gathering, the leader began his speech filled with the same old lies. Everyone was looking all around but couldn’t find Sam. No one asked any question that day.

Weeks passed and Sam was never seen again. Once again, out of thousands of people, not one ever dared to speak up.

I am smart|من با هوشم

A third-grade teacher was on medical break for a few months. A new substitute teacher walked into the class.

The substitute teacher continued the class like other normal days.

In every subject, he realized one of the students was slower and lacked self-confidence, causing his classmates to bully him a lot. One day when class was finished, the substitute teacher asked the slow student to stay after school.

The substitute teacher wrote a short poem from a famous poet on the board and told the student: “I would like you to memorize this poem tonight. Please don’t tell anyone about it.”

The next day, the substitute teacher wrote the same poem on the board and said: “I give you all 5 minutes to memorize this poem. It’s a famous poem and all of you have heard it before, so it shouldn’t be hard.”

After five minutes he erased the poem and asked: “Who remembers the poem?”

The slow student was the only one who raised his hand and was able to recite the poem. Other kids were shocked and the teacher said loudly: “Everyone please clap for M-H.”

Every day the kind substitute teacher helped M-H. believe in himself. M-H. became the honor student that year. Every year after that he was the best student in his classes. After years, he became the most famous kidney transplant specialist in Iran.

Then in his life story he mentioned that he owes all his achievements in life to his grade three-substitute teacher who made him believe that he was not dumb, and he should work hard and have faith in himself. He is still living in Shiraz-Iran and has saved many lives.

Young Olive Tree|نهال زیتون

The king of a far away territory was passing by a farm. He saw a 90-year-old man planting a young olive tree.

The king got closer to the old man and said: “With all due respect sir, are you planting a young olive tree?”

The old man said: “Yes, your majesty.”

The king continued asking: “Did you know that it will take 20 years for this young olive tree to develop olives?! You are a 90 year old man, with what hope are you planting this twig?”

The old man smiled and said: “Everyone else planted and we ate; now we plant for others to eat.”

The king liked the answer and gave some valuable coins to the old man.

The old man laughed.

The king asked with wonder: “Why are you laughing?”

The old man said: “Everyone else’s olive trees give profit in 20 years, but my olive twig gave profit right away.”

The king enjoyed the answer again and gave more gold coins to the old man.

The old man laughed again.

The king had to ask: “What did you laugh about this time?”

The old man said: “Olive trees give profit once a year but my olive twig gave profit twice in one day.”

The king jumped on his horse back and ran away fast from the old man and his farm.

The king’s right hand-side got closer to king and asked in shock: “Why did you run away so fast after the old man’s answer?”

The king said: “His 90 years of experience and knowledge would have made me bankrupt if I would’ve continued asking questions.”

An Unforgettable Sad Day|روزی غم انگيز وفراموش نشدنی

Bushehr is an important port of the Persian Gulf. It has beautiful sandy beaches that attracted tourists back in the day who would come to see beautiful views of the Persian Gulf.

Fridays are the “weekend” in Iran. We had family gatherings and picnics every single Friday.

One Friday we went to the beach. As we spread the picnic set, a family came near us and settled there.

They had three sons close to our age so all the adults and kids quickly became friends.

They were from the capital of Iran and had recently moved to Bushehr because of their second son’s health condition. The mother said that their second son had severe Asthma, and doctors had suggested that living near the sea would help calm it. Both parents were teachers, they had started teaching in Bushehr and everything was going very well for them. Their son hadn’t had any asthma attacks since their move.

Us kids went closer to the water to dig some holes. We watched them get filled with water as each wave came in. Then we all went for a swim. We stayed very close to the shore as we were kids and our parents watched us every second.

The weather was good and the beach was very crowded. We were starving after swimming for a while so we came out of the water to eat. After a few seconds, we heard a very loud scream from the mother of the three boys.

The second son with asthma wasn’t back with us. We really didn’t notice. Our parents rushed to the water to find him. The crowded beach got very quiet and every other parent came to help to find the boy.

All the men walked straight to the water with clothes on to see if they can find the boy, and all the women were praying and biting their fingers looking into the sea.

Unfortunately, they found the boy’s body. They laid him on the sand and tried so hard to bring him back but it was the end of his journey.

That was the first dead body I saw in my life. Sadly, it was that of a preschool boy. A new-made friend the same age as me.

Black Dot|نقطه سیاه

A professor came to class and asked his university students to get ready for an unexpected exam. The students got a little scared because they were not prepared.

The professor put the paper on everyone’s desk and said: “Now turn over your papers. You have 60 minutes to answer.”

Everyone turned their papers and saw a blank page with a black dot in the middle. They were so confused and looked at the professor, wondering what he expected them to write. It just seemed so crazy.

The professor said: “Write about what you see in this page.”

60 minutes passed and everyone handed in their papers.

The professor started reading each one of the answers. Every student explained the situation of the black dot in many different ways.

The professor said; “I wanted to exam the way of your thinking. None of you wrote about the white part of the page. All your attention was towards the black dot; this is the reality of life.

We only see the weaknesses, sicknesses, lack of money, fights, separations, the many black dots in our lives.

We have so many things to be grateful for, like the white part of the page, but we concentrate on the problems and poison our minds. Take your eyes off from the black dots in your life and focus on all the good things that are happening right now that you’ve been failing to see.

Be happy and thankful and spend your precious moments with love and passion. Life is too short.”

An Angel Named Frog| فرشته ای به نام قورباغه

During our summer days, my family and I used to go to my grandma’s villa. Her villa was a big mansion in a very large garden that was a little far from the city of Shiraz.

When my mom’s sisters and brothers gathered, there were more than forty people with kids. Grown ups used to sit together while the kids played without supervision.

Usually after lunches everyone used to take a nap along with their kids. I was only 4 years old, I never liked to take a nap and always pretended to fall sleep beside my mother. On one particular day, everyone was asleep and the big living room was very quiet.

I got bored and sneaked out to the garden area.

There was a special deep pool for watering the garden, not swimming. It was always swampy with many frogs.

I went directly towards the pool and sat by the edge to be able to watch the frogs. As I bent forward to get a good look, my feet slipped and I fell into the pool in a blink of eye.

Of course I didn’t know how to swim. I panicked and struggled for a little while but my little hands got tired and I gave up hope as I sank to the bottom of the pool. I sat in the water terrified, waiting to die. I opened my eyes and looked all around me. I was surrounded by the green water and ooze and many frogs.

One frog drew my attention as it was bigger than the others. I stared at it like it was telling me to look at it and pay attention. The frog then slowly swam towards the top of the water.

I looked carefully and did every thing the frog did, I waved my arms above my head and pushed my legs, just like the frog. Next thing I  knew, I had swam to the top of the pool. Just then my uncle screamed: “She’s here….she’s here!” And pulled me out of the water.

That was an angel in the form of a frog, sent by God to save me. I could never forget that moment. Since then I learned how to swim like a frog and that’s the only way I can swim to this day.

Do You Sell Miracles?|آیا معجزه می فروشید؟

A little girl went to a pharmacy and said: “Sorry, do you sell  miracles?”

The pharmacist smiled and replied: “We don’t sell miracles my dear.”

The little girl said: “But my brother is dying. Something is growing inside his head. My father said he needs a miracle. Then the little girl showed some coins to the pharmacist.

A man who heard the conversation tapped on the little girl’s shoulder and said: “How much do you have my dear?”

The little girl showed her coins.

The pharmacist waved at the man like they were friends.

The man smiled at the pharmacist and said to the little girl: “Wow, these are enough to buy a miracle.”

The little girl cracked a satisfied smile.

The man said: “Can you take me to your brother?”

She walked the stranger to a little room they called home where her mother was crying beside a little boy who was lying on a blanket.

The man introduced himself as a Neurosurgeon.

The mother was shocked.

The doctor asked the mother to bring the little boy to the hospital for all the exams and procedures.

The mother said sadly: “But we don’t have any money, doctor. Sorry we can’t afford it.”

The doctor replied: “Don’t worry about that, your little girl already paid for all the costs with the miracle that she had bought today.”

The miracle happened and the little boy went through all the procedures without a penny. He survived and everything went well.

This true story had really happened and this kind surgeon (Dr. M.S.) and many other wonderful doctors are doing these miracle surgeries for free for underprivileged patients. God bless all true human beings in this world.
